James on Main – Hackettstown and Anthony David’s in Hoboken

Leslie and I got into a restaurant before the apparent second shutdown but we picked a really good restaurant to try for the first time – James on Main. The Four course meal stuffed us but each course was really good.

The highlights started early with a Pastrami Smoked Salmon and Woodfired Beets Frisee, Dill Creme Fraiche, Pickled Leeks, Mustard Vinaigrette. The smoked salmon was one of the best I ever had. Leslie’s second course was a really smooth pumpkin soup.

Duck and lamb combination was my second course. I am not a big fan of lamb but the duck was really crispy and good. Chef James does an excellent job of pairing his main element with ingredients that really work well.

One of our main courses was the Snake River Farms Wagyu Hanger SteakCrispy Smashed Fingerling Potatoes, Frisee Salad, Cabernet and Prune Reduction. The deserts were very good which topped the night off.

A couple of weeks ago we met Connor in Hoboken for an excellent brunch at Anthony David’s. Look at my brunch ratings because this will be up near the top. My GUACAMOLE AND SPICY CHORIZO BENEDICT was excellent. Leslie got the guacamole toast and Connor had the lobster benedict. One nice feature with this restaurant is that you can bring your own proseco and they have very good juices to add. Next time I have to remember to take pictures!
